Characterization

The person or creature that interacts with others in a story.

Characterization:  the method that a writer

reveals the personality of a character.

It may be through their thoughts, feelings,

words, actions, or choices.

Direct characterization is when and author

tells you directly about the character's

personality.

"Percy was an independent, kind and caring boy."

Indirect Characterization is when an author

reveals a character's personality through

his or her actions or dialogue.

" Jenna felt so bad about failing her test, she began to cry."

Character Traits:  words that define who the character is either physically or emotionally.
