Characterization:
How authors introduce us to the characters

Thoughts:

This tells us that Percy has issues. He does get in trouble a lot.
Words:
"I'll-I'll try harder ma'am."
This tells us that Percy is afraid of Mrs. Dodds, but also lets the reader know that he cares that he is in trouble.
"If you're a normal kid reading this because you think it's fiction. Great. Read on"
This tells the reader that Percy thinks he is not normal. Also, it show that he is sarcastic.
"Are you going to send me away again."
Percy is afraid of being sent away again. He thinks that his mom doesn't want him because he is a bad kid.
Feelings:
"I started feeling cranky and irritable most of the time. My grades slipped from d's to f's."
This tells the reader that Percy is depressed. It also lets us know that he is not a very good student if his grades are usually D's.
Choices:
"Confession time. I ditched Grover as soon as we got to the bus terminal."
This shows that Percy is independent, even though Grover was frightning him he wanted to be on his own.
Actions:
"I stripped off my red rain jacket."
This shows that Percy is brave. He took off his jacket to distract the bull-man and to save Grover.
